YouTube Music Finally Adds Alphabetical Sorting for Playlists
A long-requested feature is rolling out, allowing users to sort playlists by track title, artist, and album.
The New Feature
YouTube Music is testing a significant quality-of-life update for its playlist management. The new sorting options will allow users to organize their playlists alphabetically by track title, artist, and album.
This feature was recently spotted in the YouTube Music app (version 9.20.52) on Android, as reported by Reddit user Stevenmc8602. The rollout appears to be gradual, enabled via a server-side flag, meaning not all users with the updated app version will see the feature immediately.
Previous Limitations
Until now, YouTube Music offered a limited set of sorting options for playlists. Users could choose from:
- Top voted
- Manual ordering
- Newest first
- Oldest first
This lack of alphabetical sorting has been a notable omission, especially considering that competing platforms like Spotify and Apple Music have offered sorting by title, artist, and album for years.
Discovery & Rollout
The feature was initially brought to public attention by a Reddit user before being reported by PiunikaWeb. As with many server-side tests, access is currently limited to a subset of users, with a wider release likely pending successful testing.
