Cold Case Solved: 2008 Double Murder Suspect Arrested in Washington State

Authorities charge Johnny Steven Talbert, 43, in the 2008 shooting deaths of two people at a North Carolina bottling plant.

The Incident

On June 13, 2008, a suspect opened fire at the Sun Drop Bottling Co. in Concord, North Carolina, killing 59-year-old office manager Donna Barnhardt and 44-year-old job applicant Darrell Noles. The suspect also stole money from the office and fled the scene.

The Investigation

Police investigated hundreds of tips over the years, but the case remained unsolved until 2025. Detectives reexamined evidence and pursued new leads, ultimately identifying Johnny Steven Talbert as the suspect.

The Arrest

On May 22, 2025, Talbert, 43, of Port Angeles, Washington, was arrested by local police without incident, hours after Concord police obtained a warrant. He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of robbery with a firearm, and awaits extradition to North Carolina.

Official Statements

Concord police stated they contacted the Port Angeles Police Department in December 2024. Detectives traveled to Washington on May 18, 2025, leading to Talbert's arrest just three days later.

Police thanked the Port Angeles Police Department and the community for their assistance. The families of the victims have been informed of the arrest and charges.
