Police Respond to Large Gatherings at Two Chicago Beaches
Unruly crowds at two major Chicago beaches on Monday evening prompted a significant police response, causing traffic disruptions along DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
Incident at 57th Street Beach
A large crowd gathered at 57th Street Beach in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood on Monday evening, following reports of a planned teen gathering. Police responded to disperse the crowd, with video footage showing police cars along the lakefront and a helicopter overhead.
The Office of Emergency Management and Communications advised drivers to use alternate routes as traffic on DuSable Lake Shore Drive near East 57th Drive was affected, with a portion of the road temporarily closed.
Two officers were seen assisting another officer into an ambulance, though no official injury report has been released.
The University of Chicago Police Department had previously informed the public about a possible teen trend gathering scheduled for 6 p.m. and said additional staff would be present.
