Misiorowski's Historic Velocity and Strikeout Records
"That's what I do. I throw hard." — Jacob Misiorowski
Milwaukee Brewers right-handed pitcher Jacob Misiorowski has achieved several MLB statistical records in recent starts, including marks for pitch velocity and strikeout totals.
Velocity and Strikeout Records
In a May 25 start against the St. Louis Cardinals, Misiorowski threw 57 pitches at 100 mph or faster — the most by any pitcher in a single game in the pitch-tracking era (since 2008). Of those, 40 pitches exceeded 101 mph. He became the first pitcher in that era to throw 50 pitches at 100-plus mph in a game.
Nine of his 12 strikeouts in that game were recorded on pitches over 100 mph, the most such strikeouts in a game since pitch tracking began.
In a separate game against the Colorado Rockies, which the Brewers won 7-1, Misiorowski threw a pitch at 103.7 mph. According to Major League Baseball, it is the fastest pitch recorded since full tracking began in 2008. The pitch, thrown in the third inning against Rockies third baseman Kyle Karros, was outside the strike zone and called a ball. During that game, Misiorowski threw 52 pitches at or above 100 mph.
Seasonal and Historical Achievements
Over his last five starts in May, Misiorowski pitched 31⅓ innings, allowing one earned run, striking out 49 batters, walking six, and allowing 11 hits. His ERA for that span was 0.29, WHIP 0.54, and K/9 over 14.
According to Codify Baseball, no other MLB pitcher has recorded eight or more strikeouts in six consecutive starts without allowing an extra-base hit. The previous record for such a streak was four consecutive starts.
Misiorowski is the fastest pitcher to reach 100 strikeouts in a season (11 starts) since Spencer Strider in 2023. According to Opta Stats, he is the second pitcher since 1901 to record 100-plus strikeouts while allowing 50 or fewer total bases in his first 11 starts. The other was Jacob deGrom in 2021.
Pitch Usage
His fastball has been used 61% of the time, averaging 99.7 mph, ranking in the 99th percentile by Statcast. In the last month, it has averaged 100.7 mph.
Statements
Misiorowski attributed his increased velocity to offseason training focused on his lower half.
"That's what I do. I throw hard."
Brewers manager Pat Murphy stated that Misiorowski's velocity was not surprising given his extension and velocity, but emphasized the need for him to throw strikes and use his other pitches.
