Emergency Rescue: Infant Saved from Flooded Vehicle in Beeville, Texas

On Saturday, emergency responders in Beeville, Texas, rescued an infant from a vehicle that became trapped in floodwaters at a low-water crossing. No injuries were reported.

Incident Details

The vehicle entered a low-water crossing that had become inundated due to heavy rain. Beeville Police Department stated that the driver entered the crossing before barricades had been set up. The local fire chief attempted to signal the driver to stop, but the driver did not see the warning.

Once the vehicle entered the water, the driver lost control, and the car was pushed by the current. Beeville is located approximately 100 miles southeast of San Antonio.

Rescue Operation

Footage released by the Beeville Police Department shows responders removing the infant in its carrier through the passenger-side door. According to the department, the driver handed the baby to a responder, who then covered the infant with a coat to shield it from rain. Other officers and firefighters assisted in rescuing the remaining occupants.

Weather Conditions and Warnings

The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi issued a flood warning for the Aransas River in Bee County.

Beeville police noted that low-water crossings, which are built just above the water surface, can become dangerous during storms due to rapid changes in conditions. The department stated that flood water can push vehicles off roadways quickly and urged drivers to exercise caution during heavy rain, especially near creek crossings and areas prone to flooding.
