Earl Mayo, chief of the New Chicago Police Department in Indiana, was arrested in Clark County, Ohio on Friday. On Sunday, charges were filed against him in Lake County, Indiana.

He faces the following charges:

  • Obstruction of justice

  • Unlawful possession of an anabolic steroid

Investigation

Officials confirmed that investigators searched Mayo's home in Merrillville, Indiana. The arrest was confirmed on Saturday by Mayo's father, Indiana State Police Major and Lake County sheriff candidate Jerry Williams.

Statement from Family

Jerry Williams released a statement on Saturday expressing concern for his son, noting that the family holds its children to high standards.

He stated that they have little information about the incident, acknowledged the allegations are troubling, and emphasized that Earl Mayo is presumed innocent under the justice system.

Williams added that if the allegations are proven, Mayo must accept responsibility and face consequences. He declined further comment due to ongoing legal proceedings.
