Logano and Busch had playful interaction before Busch's death

"It was a rivalry that spanned nearly two decades, but over time it thawed into a casual respect."

A Rivalry Evolves

Joey Logano recently opened up about his long-standing relationship with the late Kyle Busch, describing how what was once a fierce rivalry gradually transformed into mutual respect. Logano’s reflections came after a series of public exchanges and personal moments shared between the two drivers.

The Podcast Comment

The renewed attention began when Busch stated on a podcast that Logano, alongside Brad Keselowski and Carson Hocevar, were among his peers he disliked. Rather than let the comment fester, Logano decided to address it directly.

Logano confronted Busch about the podcast comments at the Talladega playground.

Playground Banter

In a moment that captured the new dynamic between the two, Logano recalled a recent basketball game at Talladega where Busch playfully taunted him. The two drivers played basketball with their children, and Logano noted that neither played well, underlining the lighthearted nature of the encounter.

Off-Track Camaraderie

Despite their on-track intensity, Logano described spending time with Busch away from the track, including playing cards together on flights. This contrast did not go unnoticed by other drivers.

Chase Briscoe observed that Busch had a remarkable ability to switch between his competitive on-track persona and his friendly off-track demeanor at will. Michael McDowell also commented on Busch's capacity to separate the two worlds.

"He could go from intense rival to playing cards with you on a flight in the same weekend."
