Giants' Jaxson Dart Faces Teammate Criticism After Introducing Trump at Rally

"This is bigger than football." — Giants linebacker Abdul Carter on the controversy

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart introduced President Donald Trump at a rally on Friday, an action that sparked public criticism from a teammate and led to internal team discussions during the following week.

Rally Appearance

Dart introduced President Trump at a rally held at Rockland Community College in Suffern, New York, on Friday. According to sources, Dart was "approached recently about meeting the president during a trip to New York."

He walked out to instrumental music of "Eye of the Tiger" and opened with a "Go Big Blue" chant. President Trump greeted Dart with a handshake and a hug, later referring to Dart as a "future Hall of Famer."

During his speech, Trump referenced Dart when discussing a policy banning transgender athletes from women's sports, asking if any woman in the audience thought she could tackle Dart.

Public Criticism and Resolution

The following day, Giants linebacker Abdul Carter posted a critical comment on X regarding Dart's introduction. Carter later deleted the post and stated that he and Dart had resolved the matter.

In subsequent media statements, Carter said he criticized Dart after confirming Dart introduced President Trump, describing the issue as "bigger than football" and stating that Dart represents the entire team.

Dart read a statement in which he did not mention Trump by name, saying he valued the unique opportunity to introduce the president.

According to Carter, Dart did not apologize to him. Both players said they have spoken and remain on good terms, with Dart noting that he addressed the situation with Carter and other teammates in "honest conversations." Carter added that he and Dart sit next to each other daily and share the same team goals.

Team Response and Meeting

Dart addressed teammates on Wednesday regarding the introduction, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan. Pass-rushers Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux, and backup quarterback Jameis Winston also spoke during the meeting. The team discussed "keeping things 'internal' and not airing frustrations publicly."

Head coach John Harbaugh said he believes the issue has strengthened the team by prompting necessary conversations and deferred to players on setting their own guidelines.

Backup quarterback Jameis Winston highlighted the positive example of two teammates from different backgrounds coming together despite disagreements.

Other players outside the Giants also commented. New Orleans Saints defensive end Cam Jordan wrote on X, "sounds bout ole miss," referring to Dart's alma mater.
