A New Life Down Under: From Peruvian Threats to Australian Trailers

Marianella (42) and Ana Claudia Casmon (36), a couple from Peru, moved to Australia in 2018 after receiving a refugee visa. Their application was based on threats they faced following their work with a charity for young LGBTQ individuals in Peru. Marianella reported her car was smashed with rocks and their office was targeted in an arson attempt.

The couple arrived in Sydney with $80,000, seeking safety and a fresh start.

They initially purchased a kebab caravan but faced hostility from other vendors and financial difficulties. Later, they worked as disability carers and started a business manufacturing teardrop camping trailers.
