Racing Bulls Hit by Hydraulic Leak and Stewards' Summons in Chaotic Start

MELBOURNE, Australia – Liam Lawson’s preparation for the sprint weekend was severely hampered after a hydraulic leak caused him to miss most of free practice. The incident was compounded by a secondary issue that drew the attention of the race stewards.

"The team was summoned to the stewards for a potential technical infringement after Lawson’s neutral button failed when marshals attempted to move the car."

The failure occurred post-session as marshals tried to retrieve the stranded VCARB. The neutral button malfunction prevented the car from being easily pushed, leading to a mandatory stewards' inquiry regarding the technical regulations.

Team Principal Alan Permane confirmed the severity of the loss of track time. "The hydraulic leak was significant, and it essentially wiped out our practice session," Permane stated. "We are working to resolve the issue before sprint qualifying."

With limited running, Permane tempered expectations for the sprint. He noted the difficulty of scoring points in the shortened race format given the dominance of the current top four teams.

"Scoring points in the sprint with the top four teams in their current form is incredibly difficult," Permane admitted, "so we will treat sprint qualifying and the sprint as extended practice sessions to prepare for main qualifying."

This strategic pivot aims to salvage data and setup work ahead of the main grand prix qualifying session. The team will focus on maximizing learning from the limited track time available, rather than chasing an unlikely sprint result.
