Australian man found unconscious on Lombok road recovering after brain surgery

A 23-year-old man from Adelaide, Jaxen Day, was found unconscious on an isolated road in Lombok, Indonesia, by a local fisherman. His motorbike was discovered beside him with no marks or scratches. He was taken to three medical clinics before being accepted and later diagnosed with a coma. Emergency brain surgery was subsequently performed.

Allan Day, Jaxen's father, said the neurosurgeon indicated the brain injury could have been caused by severe shaking, as there was no external trauma. Jaxen also sustained a broken collarbone.

Current condition

A month after surgery, Jaxen has regained consciousness and can speak his own name. He cannot use his right arm but has begun regaining movement in his right leg. Doctors expressed hope for full recovery with rehabilitation.

Jaxen did not have travel insurance. His family is working with commercial airlines to bring him home once fit to fly. Hospital bills in Indonesia are tens of thousands of dollars. A crowdfunding campaign has been launched by his friend Luka Jackway.
