Ed Orgeron Returns to LSU as Special Assistant to Recruiting and Defense

BATON ROUGE, La. — Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron has been hired as a special assistant to recruiting and defense, head coach Lane Kiffin announced on Wednesday.

"I'm excited to bring Coach Orgeron back to LSU. He brings us tremendous value with his ability to recruit elite players nationally, but especially the impact he can have for us recruiting the great state of Louisiana."
— Lane Kiffin, LSU Head Coach

Orgeron led LSU for nearly six seasons, delivering a historic 15-0 campaign and the 2019 national championship. Known for his intense recruiting presence and defensive coaching acumen, he now returns in a support role to help restore the program’s national standing.

In a statement, Kiffin emphasized both Orgeron's recruiting prowess and his on-field impact:

"Coach O understands my expectations and commitment to being a championship program. I look forward to seeing him with recruits and his intensity working with our defensive players."

The move reunites Orgeron with LSU in a capacity that leverages his deep ties to Louisiana high school football and his experience building elite defenses.
