Betty Boop Returns to the Big Screen with Quinta Brunson Attached to Star and Produce

The film will trace the origin and evolution of Betty Boop through the perspective of her creator, Max Fleischer.

Quinta Brunson, the creator and star of Abbott Elementary, is set to bring a beloved cartoon icon back to cinema. She will develop, produce, and star in a feature film adaptation of Betty Boop, marking the character's first theatrical starring role since the 1930s.

The Project and Key Partners
The film is currently in development in partnership with Mark Fleischer, the grandson of original creator Max Fleischer, along with Fleischer Studios. Brunson's production company, Fifth Chance Productions, is overseeing the project alongside head of creative affairs Erin Wehrenberg.

The Story's Focus
Rather than a simple live-action cartoon, the film will explore the origin and evolution of Betty Boop through the perspective of Max Fleischer himself. It will examine the complex relationship between the artist and his creation, set against a backdrop of creative ambition and commercial pressure.

Key Quotes

Brunson stated that the story can be explored in a way that feels "refreshing, subversive, and timeless."

Mark Fleischer stated that Brunson embodies Betty's qualities and that the relationship between her as Betty and Max "burst into life."
