Police Stand Down After Threat Prompts Cairns School Lockdown

"Police have found nothing suspicious and are allowing students back to some sections of the school."

Emergency services responded to a reported threat at a Cairns high school shortly after 9:25 am on Monday.

An emergency declaration was enacted under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) , prompting the immediate evacuation of the school and all surrounding buildings.

Police established a wide exclusion zone, bounded by Lake Street, Minnie Street, Grove Street, and McLeod Street. Residents were urged to remain indoors and the general public was advised to avoid the area entirely.

As of the latest update, a thorough police search has concluded with no suspicious findings. Authorities have begun allowing students back into certain sections of the school.

Residents are now being permitted to return to the surrounding areas that were previously closed off.

However, officials are still advising parents and carers not to attend the facility to collect children while the operational response is ongoing.
