Australia's Condemnation

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has condemned Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir for posting a video showing him abusing bound activists who were captured while attempting to sail an aid flotilla to Gaza.

Wong stated that the images were "shocking and unacceptable."

Diplomatic Action

Wong has instructed Australia's Ambassador to Israel to make representations to the Israeli government. She reiterated Australia's call for the release of detained Australians and demanded that Israel ensure no ill-treatment of detainees and act in accordance with international obligations.

Background on Ben-Gvir

Ben-Gvir, a far-right minister, had posted footage of himself waving an Israeli flag and taunting the detainees, including shouting "The people of Israel live" in the face of a bound man. Australia has previously sanctioned Ben-Gvir.
