A recent addendum to the $1.8 billion settlement between the Justice Department and Donald Trump, his family, and the Trump Organization bars the federal government from pursuing any IRS claims related to tax returns filed before the settlement's effective date.
The addendum, signed by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, extends protection to Trump, family members, the Trump Organization, and related entities. The settlement resolved a $10 billion lawsuit over the leak of Trump tax returns by an IRS employee.
Senator Ron Wyden criticized the provision as violating federal law against executive interference in IRS audits, calling it legally invalid.
