Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Wimbledon and Queen’s Club Due to Wrist Injury
World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has been forced to withdraw from both the Queen's Club grass-court tournament and Wimbledon due to a right wrist injury that also kept him out of the French Open.
The 23-year-old Spaniard has not competed since pulling out of the Barcelona Open last month. In a post on X, Alcaraz explained his decision:
"My recovery is going well and I feel much better but unfortunately I'm still not ready to be able to play, and that's why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen's and Wimbledon."
Alcaraz won Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024, and his rivalry with Jannik Sinner has become a defining storyline in men's tennis. The two faced off in the 2024 French Open final—which Alcaraz won—and the 2024 Wimbledon final, where Sinner triumphed. Alcaraz made history as the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam by winning the 2025 Australian Open.
His ATP ranking is expected to decline due to this extended absence.
Speaking at the Laureus World Sports Awards while wearing a cast on his injured wrist, Alcaraz emphasized patience over haste:
"I'd rather come back a little later and with a full recovery. I need to take care of myself because I want to have a long career."
With Alcaraz out, Jannik Sinner is now considered the leading contender to defend his Wimbledon title.
The French Open main draw begins on Sunday, while Wimbledon starts on June 29.
