A BMW sedan struck a power pole on the Hume Highway in Villawood on Sunday night, snapping it in two and causing the vehicle to split apart.
The force of the impact caused the vehicle to split in two.
Incident Details
The crash occurred at approximately 9:30 PM on the Hume Highway near Farrell Road. The BMW sedan struck a power pole, snapping it in two and bringing down power lines.
The front portion of the BMW came to rest approximately 200 meters from the point of impact and caught fire. The rear of the BMW struck a Toyota Corolla hatchback that was traveling in the opposite direction.
Injuries and Medical Response
The driver of the BMW, a 24-year-old man, sustained burns and suspected fractures. He was able to exit the wreckage and received assistance from passers-by until the arrival of emergency services. He was transported to Royal North Shore Hospital.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla, a 48-year-old man, was also injured in the collision and was taken to Liverpool Hospital for medical assessment.
Traffic Disruption
The westbound lanes of the Hume Highway were closed following the crash. All lanes were reopened by just before 7:00 AM on Monday, after a closure lasting approximately four hours.
