"From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" — a slogan considered by the Federal Interior Ministry to be a slogan of Hamas — may have been chanted during the rallies.

Arrests in Berlin Following Nakba Day Attacks on Police and Press

Berlin police reported multiple arrests on May 16, 2026, after attacks on officers and members of the press during Nakba Day rallies in the German capital. The incidents took place in the Hasenheide area of the Kreuzberg district.

Forbidden slogans were chanted, and authorities confirmed attacks were made on both police officers and press representatives. "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" may have been among the slogans used. German courts have issued varying verdicts on the prosecutability of this phrase.

Police also reported multiple attacks on officers from within the procession and asked demonstrators to keep to the right side of the road.

Last year's procession saw several protesters and police officers wounded in clashes.
