A Fresh Take on a Modern Classic

A new film adaptation of Virginia Woolf's novel Mrs Dalloway, directed by Nigerian brothers Arie and Chuko Esiri, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The story is set partly in modern-day Lagos and partly in Abraka, southern Nigeria, 30 years in the past.

A Stellar Cast

The film features Sophie Okonedo as Clarissa, David Oyelowo as Peter, and Nikki Amuka-Bird as Sally. Flashback scenes portray younger versions of the characters, played by India Amarteifio, Toheeb Jimoh, and Ayo Edebiri.

War and Memory

The narrative also includes a subplot about a soldier named Septimus (Fortune Nwafor), dealing with PTSD and his experiences during combat with Boko Haram.

The Heart of the Story

The film explores themes of life choices, regret, and the passage of time.
