Pies Young Gun Steene Suffers ACL Blow
Collingwood ruckman Oscar Steene has been diagnosed with a season-altering anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, sidelining the exciting young talent for an extended period.
The injury occurred during the third quarter of Collingwood's round 10 clash against Sydney at the SCG on May 15, 2026. Steene's left knee buckled during a contest, and he was immediately helped from the field by medical staff.
Scans have since confirmed the ACL injury, a diagnosis that coach Craig McRae had anticipated shortly after the match.
"We are all incredibly disappointed for Oscar," said Collingwood's executive general manager of football, Charlie Gardiner. "He has worked exceptionally hard to earn his opportunity at the highest level. Our primary focus now is to support him through his recovery and rehabilitation."
Steene had made his AFL debut earlier in the 2026 season, quickly earning praise for his athleticism and competitiveness. A timeline for his return to play has not yet been announced.
