Bronze Bust of Scott Morrison Unveiled in Ballarat Prime Ministers Avenue

A bronze bust of former Prime Minister Scott Morrison was unveiled in Ballarat's Avenue of Australian Prime Ministers on Friday, May 15, 2026. The sculpture, created by Martin Moore, was based on measurements taken during sittings several years ago.

"It's a magnificent tradition here in Ballarat." — Scott Morrison

Morrison is the 30th former prime minister to be memorialized in the Avenue. The bust depicts Morrison with a heavier appearance compared to his current trim physique, which he attributed to having more time for exercise after leaving politics.

A separate satirical bust created by activist Rob Beamish and sculptor Louise Pratt in 2022 was removed from the avenue but later purchased by the Ballarat Art Gallery.

Reflections on Leadership and Legacy

Morrison reflected on the isolating challenges of leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. He cited advice from former Prime Minister John Howard: "There is no ideology in a crisis, there is just fixing it and seeing your country through. "

Drawing a parallel with former Prime Minister Joe Lyons, Morrison noted that while Lyons was unpopular during his tenure, he helped rebuild Australia's economy.

Political Commentary

When asked about current Coalition political turmoil, Morrison declined to comment directly. He stated that he provides advice privately to colleagues. However, he commended Angus Taylor's budget reply speech and his invitation to "believe again."
