Trump Xi Summit: China Lays Out Position on Iran Crisis
During President Trump's visit to China, the two leaders held high-level discussions on major international and regional issues, specifically addressing the volatile situation in the Middle East and Iran. Beijing has since articulated its formal stance on the Iran conflict, centering its approach on de-escalation and diplomacy.
Key Stance from Beijing
China expressed deep concern over the regional and global repercussions of the conflict, citing its impact on Iran, neighboring countries, global economic growth, supply chains, the international trade order, and energy stability.
"Dialogue and negotiation are the right path; use of force is a dead end."
While welcoming the recent US-Iran ceasefire and efforts to resolve disputes through negotiation, China urged all parties to capitalize on this momentum.
A Call for Political Settlement
The Chinese government called for a steadying of the current de-escalation trajectory. Officials advocated for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, specifically demanding the reopening of critical shipping lanes to restore global trade stability.
To reinforce its position, Beijing referenced President Xi Jinping’s four propositions on Middle East peace, as well as the China-Pakistan five-point initiative aimed at restoring peace in the Gulf and the broader Middle East region.
Continued Role in Peace Talks
China has committed to continuing its constructive role in international affairs, pledging active support for peace talks in the region.
