Two Separate Death Investigations Underway in Tasmania
Authorities have confirmed the two incidents are not connected.
Campania: Murder-Suicide Ruled in Death of Two in Their 60s
Emergency services responded to a property on Native Corners Road in Campania, approximately 30 km north of Hobart, shortly after 10:00 AM on Friday. Ambulance officers discovered a man and a woman, both aged in their 60s, deceased at the scene.
Detective Inspector David Gill stated that initial investigations suggest the incident was confined to the home and there is no evidence of an ongoing threat to the community. A crime scene was established, and forensic services remain at the location.
Police are treating the incident as a murder-suicide. Initial investigations indicate the woman sustained fatal injuries, and the man died by suicide. No firearm was used or found at the scene. A close family member alerted emergency services after reportedly receiving death threats from the man. The couple were not previously known to police.

New Town: Man Charged with Murder After Woman's Body Found
A separate investigation is underway in New Town, Hobart, following the discovery of a woman's body at a residence on Lissadell Court on Saturday afternoon. Police have charged a 56-year-old man with murder.
The body of a woman, believed to be in her 60s and a resident of the house, was found on Saturday. A police statement confirmed the man and woman had lived together for some time. The man was detained by police on Saturday morning after a mental health check prompted by family concerns. He was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment and is now in police custody after being cleared medically. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court.
Police stated the woman is believed to have been dead for several weeks before her body was discovered. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death. The victim's name has not been released. Police stated the man and woman have a 16-year history with police related to neighborhood disputes.
