Dior Cruise 2027: A Hollywood Love Letter at LACMA
Dior presented its Cruise 2027 collection on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Creative director Jonathan Anderson staged the show in the museum courtyard at the newly opened David Geffen Galleries, a venue designed by architect Peter Zumthor.
Collection Details
The show featured 75 looks inspired by Hollywood icons and California motifs. The collection drew on Christian Dior's 1950s relationship with cinema, particularly actresses Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe, and Marlene Dietrich. Anderson revisited a Bar jacket originally created for Marlene Dietrich for the film Stage Fright.
Key design elements included:
- Off-the-shoulder silhouettes, ruffled scarves, and feathered hats with stylized lettering spelling words like "Dior" and "Buzz"
- A buttercup-yellow dress with rosettes
- A gown of layered orange ruffles inspired by the California poppy, the state flower
- Flowing women's dresses, belted outerwear, and new versions of the Bar jacket
- Denim reworked with silver chain embroidery and woven treatments
- Vertically striped coats referencing Alfred Hitchcock films
- Menswear featuring sharp geometric shadowing and grey wool flannels
Anderson collaborated with artist Ed Ruscha on shirts inspired by American iconography, and with hat designer Philip Treacy for feathered headpieces. The set included vintage Cadillacs. Accessories included new versions of the Saddle bag, heels with flowers or feathers, and sparkling sunglasses.
Attendees
The front row included actors Miley Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter, Miles Teller, Anya Taylor-Joy, Mikey Madison, Tracee Ellis Ross, Macaulay Culkin, Taylor Russell, Miranda Kerr, LaKeith Stanfield, Al Pacino, Jeff Goldblum, Leslie Mann, Maude Apatow, Gia Coppola, and Lauren Hutton.
Dior executive Delphine Arnault also attended. Industry representatives included executives from Amazon, Legendary, UTA, and producer Brian Grazer. Attendees received Dior blankets due to cold weather.
After Party
An after party was held at the Chateau Marmont. The event became crowded, leading some guests, including Jeff Goldblum and Tracee Ellis Ross, to leave early.
Statements
Anderson described the collection as representing a new direction for Dior. He said: "I was looking at the idea of on-screen, off-screen."
Regarding denim, he stated: "I want to redo denim."
On the company's cinema project, Anderson said: "How does a fashion house work with cinema, and how does cinema work at the fashion house? What is a new type of business model within that?"
On his approach to Dior, he noted: "I know where it's going in terms of where is the process... I'm enjoying the process."
Context
The show is part of a larger Hollywood project for Dior, including upcoming film productions with director Luca Guadagnino and two others. Anderson is the first designer to oversee all of Dior's divisions since founder Christian Dior.
