Netflix and NFL Finalize Extended Broadcast Rights Deal Through 2030
The agreement matches the duration of existing deals with Fox, CBS, NBC, Prime Video, and YouTube.
Netflix and the National Football League (NFL) have finalized a revised broadcast rights deal extending through the 2029-2030 season. The agreement was announced by Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria during the company's upfront presentation in New York. The move was first reported by Austin Karp of Sports Business Journal.
Key Terms of the Agreement
- Annual Christmas Day Games: Netflix will continue to stream a double-header of games on Christmas Day, a package first acquired in 2024.
- Additional Regular-Season Games: The new deal adds three regular-season games per season to Netflix's schedule, bringing the total number of league games streamed by the platform to five annually.
Scheduled Games for 2025-2026
September 10, 2025 (Week 1): Netflix will stream a game between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers, played in Australia. This will be the first NFL regular-season game held in that country as part of the league's international expansion.
November 25, 2026 (Wednesday before Thanksgiving): Netflix will have exclusive rights to a game between the Green Bay Packers and the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. This is the NFL's first-ever Thanksgiving Eve game.
January 9, 2027 (Week 18): Netflix will stream a game on the final day of the regular season. The specific teams for this game, as well as the teams for the third year of the existing Christmas Day package, are scheduled to be announced when the NFL releases its 2027 schedule on Thursday.
Distribution and Background
The games will stream live in over 200 countries. In the participating teams' home markets, the games will also be available on local over-the-air broadcast stations.
Netflix first entered the NFL broadcast market with a two-game Christmas Day package in 2024. According to Netflix, the 2024 Minnesota Vikings-Detroit Lions Christmas game became the most-streamed regular-season NFL game in U.S. history.
Netflix has also confirmed plans to acquire the rights to the NFL Honors ceremony, which awards league MVP and other accolades during the Super Bowl run-up.
Future Outlook
Regarding future expansion, Netflix has stated it does not currently intend to acquire a full-season package, though a company representative noted this position is non-binding and subject to change. It is unclear whether the three additional games for 2026 are part of the new four-year deal or a separate arrangement.
