LinkedIn Announces Layoffs Across Multiple Departments
Affected employees will be notified via calendar invite within an hour of the announcement.
LinkedIn is laying off employees across its Global Business Organization, marketing, engineering, and product teams. The company has not disclosed the exact number of employees affected; it currently employs approximately 17,500 workers.
In addition to job cuts, LinkedIn will also reduce investments in marketing campaigns, vendor spend, customer events, and underutilized office space. The company's office in Graz, Austria, will be closed.
This round of layoffs follows cost-cutting measures by parent company Microsoft, including buyout offers for long-serving employees. Microsoft plans to spend $190 billion in capital expenditures this year, primarily on AI infrastructure.
A LinkedIn spokesperson stated: "As part of our regular business planning, we've implemented organizational changes to best position ourselves for future success."
CEO Daniel Shapero's memo to employees explained the need to "deliver a step change in impact" and "operate more profitably," requiring role reductions and investment shifts.
