ATM Explosion at Queen Victoria Market; Man Injured in Aftermath

Three individuals used an explosive device to access an automated teller machine (ATM) at Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne around 2:45 am local time. The suspects fled on foot immediately after the explosion.

"Market security identified three suspicious individuals via cameras and alerted police, who arrived two minutes later."

Injuries and Medical Response
Ambulance Victoria confirmed paramedics arrived at the scene at approximately 3:00 am. A male, aged in his 40s, was found injured shortly afterward in Peel Street. He suffered upper body injuries and was transported to The Alfred hospital in serious condition. He is currently under police guard.

Security and Investigation
Queen Victoria Market CEO Matt Elliott described the explosion as limited in scale, comparing its effect to that of a hammer strike. Police arrived two minutes after security alerted them, but the suspects had already interfered with the ATM.

Police are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with information or footage to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
