"I have not ruled myself out of the vacant Carlton coaching position."
Ken Hinkley has confirmed he remains a potential candidate for the head coaching role at Carlton, while also endorsing John Longmire as a strong option for a cultural overhaul at the club.
Speaking on SEN on May 13, 2026, Hinkley acknowledged that his age—turning 60 this year—is a factor for the long-term rebuilding job required at Ikon Park.
Hinkley reflected on the state of the club under Michael Voss, noting that the Blues appeared unable to play modern football consistently. He suggested that other experienced coaches, including Adam Simpson and Nathan Buckley, alongside several assistant-level coaches, should also be considered candidates.
Josh Fraser has been appointed as the interim coach for the remainder of the season.
Candidate Backgrounds
- Ken Hinkley coached Port Adelaide for 13 seasons (2013–2025), posting a 59% win rate and guiding the club to 15 finals appearances.
- John Longmire coached Sydney from 2011 to 2024, winning the 2012 premiership with a 63% win rate. Hinkley endorsed Longmire’s attributes and experience as ideal for driving a cultural reset at Carlton.
