The 29-year-old artist has been ordered to remain silent for two more weeks to avoid surgery.
Simpson, who rose to fame as a pop singer before pivoting to competitive swimming, announced on social media that he has been diagnosed with a serious hemorrhage on one of his vocal cords.
The injury occurred after he performed while suffering from a sinus infection. He has been on vocal rest for weeks and has already canceled TV and radio appearances scheduled to promote his single, "Baby Blue."
