China's Marriage and Divorce Registrations Dip to New Lows in Q1 2025
Marriage Registrations Hit Five-Year Low
In the first three months of 2025, 1.697 million couples registered for marriage in China, a decrease of 6.24% compared to the same period in 2024. This marks the lowest first-quarter total since 2020, when 1.557 million couples registered amid the first wave of COVID-19 lockdowns.
Divorce Figures Also Decline
Divorces also saw a year-on-year decline, dropping by 1.27% to 622,000 couples in the first quarter of 2025.
At 1.697 million, the first-quarter marriage total is the lowest in five years, reflecting a continued downward trend.
