Surfer Stephanie Gilmore Wins Record-Extending 34th Career Tour Event

Australian surfer Stephanie Gilmore, 38, won the women's Gold Coast Pro at Snapper Rocks on Monday, defeating Brazilian surfer Luana Silva, 21, with a score of 17.33.

Gilmore's victory represents her seventh win at this event, first achieved in 2005, and is her record-extending 34th career tour win.

Ethan Ewing Takes Men's Title

In the men's event, Australian surfer Ethan Ewing, 27, defeated Japanese-Australian surfer Connor O'Leary by less than half a point. The win is Ewing's third career Championship Tour (CT) victory and his first in his home state of Queensland.

Background and Statements

Gilmore returned to the World Surf League (WSL) tour in 2025 after a two-year break from full-time competition. She stated that her performance improved throughout the competition and was best in the final, and that the victory reaffirmed her belief in her ability to compete.

Ewing stated that winning at Snapper Rocks, approximately one hour from his home, was a major personal goal. He had not won a tour event since 2023.

Rankings Impact

Gilmore's win moved her to seventh place in the women's WSL rankings. Molly Picklum, currently fourth, is the highest-ranked Australian woman.

Silva qualified for the GWM Aussie Treble by reaching the final, having previously performed well at Margaret River and Bells Beach.

Upcoming Events

The next WSL event is scheduled for Raglan, New Zealand, later in May, followed by events in El Salvador and Brazil.
