Remains Found in Bushland Identified as Missing Man Jeffrey Robert Mundy

A bushwalker discovered human remains in bushland on the Fleurieu Peninsula on July 4, 2025. South Australia Police have since confirmed the remains belong to Jeffrey Robert Mundy, who had been missing since December 2020.

Discovery

On Friday, July 4, 2025, at approximately 5:30 PM, a bushwalker found the remains 5–6 meters down an embankment off a track near Mount Alma Road, Inman Valley. The location is approximately 75–80 km south of Adelaide.

Police described the remains as "very decomposed" and stated they had likely been at the site for several years.

Victim

Jeffrey Robert Mundy was last seen by his family on December 19, 2020, in the Seaford area. His disappearance was classified as a major crime and investigated under Taskforce Southern by the Major Crime Investigation Branch.

Investigation

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke stated that the circumstances of Mr. Mundy's disappearance and alleged murder are not connected to other deaths investigated under Taskforce Southern.

Earlier reports from Detective Inspector Andrew Macrae had noted that the geographic proximity of the remains to other cases under Taskforce Southern would be a consideration for investigators.

Mr. Mundy's death is one of three cases linked to Taskforce Southern, which investigates alleged drug-related murders. The other cases are:

  • Trevor King, whose body was found in waters off West Lakes in January 2020.
  • Robert Atkins, whose remains were discovered in a well at an abandoned rural property in 2023.

One person has been charged in connection with Mr. Atkins' death. No charges have been filed in relation to Mr. Mundy's murder.

Reward

A reward of up to $200,000 is available for information leading to a conviction for Mr. Mundy's murder.

Statements

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke urged individuals with knowledge of the case to come forward, noting that personal circumstances or allegiances that may have prevented prior cooperation may have changed over the past five years.

Mr. Mundy's parents, Rob and Belinda Mundy, expressed gratitude to the bushwalker who found their son and to detectives.

Rob Mundy described his son as a "father, a loving son, a brother and an uncle." The family appealed for anyone with information to contact police.
