ANALYSIS OF THE PICK

The Kansas City Chiefs selected LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane with the sixth overall pick in the first round of the NFL draft after trading up from the ninth spot. The move comes after the team traded All-Pro corner Trent McDuffie earlier in the offseason.

REACTIONS

"Delane is talented, but the Chiefs gave up additional picks to move up."

Caleb James graded the pick a C-, stating that Delane is talented but the Chiefs sacrificed additional draft capital to move up. He noted that the team still has needs at wide receiver and edge rusher, and players like Jordyn Tyson and Ruben Bain were still available at the time of the pick.

"McDuffie was a better prospect, and they could have addressed other positions."

Nate Christensen gave a D grade, arguing that McDuffie was a superior prospect entering the NFL and that the team could have targeted other areas of need. Christensen felt Delane would need to exceed McDuffie's achievements to justify the trade.

"A perimeter shutdown player, but why move up when the draft is deep at corner?"

Rocky Magana gave a B, calling Delane a perimeter shutdown player but questioning the necessity of moving up, given the overall depth at cornerback available in this year's draft class.
