NCSC Releases SilentGlass Device to Secure HDMI and DisplayPort Connections

View source

The UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has unveiled SilentGlass, a plug-and-play hardware device designed to protect HDMI and DisplayPort links from cyberattacks, targeting government and business use.

SilentGlass is a low-cost, easy-to-deploy tool that secures display connections—identified by the NCSC as potential attack vectors for espionage, disruption, or financial gain. The device addresses a gap where existing mitigations are either costly or inefficient.

The technology has already been deployed within UK government systems and approved for high-threat environments. It is now available for commercial purchase, with manufacturing and distribution handled by Goldilock under license, in partnership with Sony UK Technology Centre.

"This device helps protect vulnerable IT infrastructure with ease and demonstrates the NCSC's impact alongside industry partners." – Ollie Whitehouse, CTO at NCSC

Stephen Kines, Co-Founder at Goldilock Labs, noted that hardware interfaces like display connections have been overlooked as security boundaries despite risks from supply chains and physical access. He added that the solution is now available for critical national infrastructure (CNI) and businesses.
