Two separate incidents of selfless assistance near the finish line highlighted the supportive spirit of the running community at the 2025 Boston Marathon.

BOSTON — Amid the triumph of the 2025 Boston Marathon, two acts of compassion near the finish line captured the essence of the event's community spirit.

First Incident: A Collaborative Rescue

Runner Ajay Haridasse collapsed approximately 1,000 feet (300 meters) from the finish line, overcome by exhaustion and dehydration. Two fellow competitors, Aaron Beggs of Northern Ireland and Robson De Oliveira of Brazil, immediately stopped to assist him. Together, they carried Haridasse across the finish line.

“My actions were instinctive,” Beggs stated following the race.

De Oliveira said he decided to help after seeing Beggs stop. Pete Grasso, who recorded video of the incident, noted in an email that the assisting runners halted during a fast segment of the race to help a fellow competitor.

Second Incident: Independent Finish

In a separate event, runner Lan Nguyen of Washington, D.C., also received crucial aid near the finish line. Runners Jessica Kier, Meredith Rosenberg, and William Bara-Jimenez helped Nguyen, including carrying her part of the way. Nguyen ultimately crossed the finish line independently.

Event Results

John Korir and Sharon Lokedi of Kenya won the men's and women's open divisions, respectively. In the wheelchair races, Marcel Hug of Switzerland and Eden Rainbow-Cooper of Great Britain claimed their respective division victories.

Race Statistics

The Boston Athletic Association reported that 29,101 of the 29,470 registered runners completed the race. The Association issued a statement describing the assistance as "inspiring" and highlighting the supportive spirit of the running community during the event.
