Tasmania Devils VFL Clash Set to Draw Record Crowd
A VFL match between the Tasmania Devils and Carlton is expected to attract a significant crowd at Ninja Stadium this Saturday night. With approximately 10,000 tickets already sold in advance, the crowd is projected to reach around 12,000.
This expected attendance would surpass recent AFL attendance figures at the venue. The largest recent crowd at Ninja Stadium was 10,318 in 2025 for an AFL match between North Melbourne and Gold Coast.
The match is scheduled to start at 7:10pm. It will be broadcast live on 7Mate in Tasmania and nationally on 7plus, Kayo, and the AFL website, with radio coverage provided by SEN and ABC.
Club Confident of Outdrawing AFL Fixture
Aaron Pidgeon, head of operations for the Tasmania Football Club, expressed confidence that the VFL match will outdraw the AFL match between Hawthorn and Gold Coast at UTAS Stadium in Launceston on the same day.
Pidgeon said a turnout of more than 12,000 would be significant and noted the team's current winning record. He also highlighted that the night game schedule avoids conflict with local afternoon competitions and that a triple header of Clarence Premier League matches would add to the event's appeal.
New Medal to Honour Local Hero
In related news, the club has announced the creation of the Cameron Baird Medal, to be awarded to the best Tasmanian player during its ANZAC Day game.
Cameron Baird was a local from Burnie and the son of Doug Baird, who played several games for Carlton in the late 1960s. Pidgeon confirmed the medal is committed for the next two years at the VFL level.
Additional Event Details
Adding to the match-day atmosphere, the Tasmanian country-rock band The Wolfe Brothers are scheduled to perform at halftime.
