Netflix in Talks to Acquire Historic Radford Studio Center

Netflix is currently in negotiations with Hackman Capital Partners to purchase the historic Radford Studio Center in Studio City. This potential move comes as the streaming giant's 10-year lease on Sunset Bronson Studios is set to expire later this year.

A source familiar with the matter described the potential purchase as "a great opportunity" for Netflix "at the right price."

About the Studio Campus

Radford Studio Center is a nearly 100-year-old production facility featuring a 22-stage campus. The property has a storied history, previously operating as CBS Studio Center under the ownership of Viacom.

In 2021, an investment group led by Hackman Capital Partners and Square Mile Capital Management acquired the property for $1.85 billion. The investors later announced ambitious plans for a $1 billion renovation in 2023, which included modern soundstages, production offices, sustainability upgrades, historic preservation, and transportation improvements. These renovation plans were ultimately not carried out.

Earlier this year, Hackman Capital Partners defaulted on the mortgage for the property.

A Legacy of Iconic Productions

The studio has served as a creative home for numerous landmark television series over the decades. Its soundstages have hosted productions including:

  • Seinfeld
  • The Mary Tyler Moore Show
  • That '70s Show

The site's entertainment roots run even deeper. In its earliest incarnation as the Mack Sennett Studio, the lot was used by silent film legends such as Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton.
