Google Wallet Introduces Live Flight Status Updates for Android

Google Wallet for Android is rolling out a new feature that provides live flight status updates directly from boarding passes stored in the app.

The feature becomes active shortly before takeoff and displays on devices running Android 16 or later.

How the Live Updates Work

A persistent notification shows the estimated arrival time and airline. This update appears not only in the notification shade but also on the always-on display and lock screen. The visual display includes the flight duration with a progress bar and a plane icon, offering a quick, at-a-glance view of your trip's status.

Tapping the notification opens the standard ticket page within Google Wallet.

Context and Existing Features

This new capability builds upon related functionality already present in Google Wallet for flight boarding passes:

  • Notifications for updates like boarding time changes.
  • Quick access to a QR code for boarding gates via a persistent notification.
  • Check-in reminders through Gmail integration.

The ticket page within Google Wallet includes a link to Google Flights, which opens a web search result.

Development and Future Plans

Google first indicated this feature was in development in October 2025. The company has stated that support for train trips and other events is planned for the future.

This live updates feature joins similar functionality in Google Maps for navigation, extending Google's ecosystem of real-time travel information.
