Richard Gadd’s Limited Series ‘Half Man’ to Premiere on HBO April 23

The limited series “Half Man,” created by Richard Gadd (known for “Baby Reindeer”), is scheduled to premiere on HBO on April 23. New episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays. Gadd wrote, created, and stars in the series.

The story begins at the wedding of Niall Kennedy... where he is confronted by his step-brother Ruben Pallister.

Synopsis

The narrative shifts to the late 1980s, depicting Niall as a 15-year-old being bullied at school. A new student, Ruben, who is transferring from Polmont Young Offenders Institute, joins his class.

Niall’s mother, Lori, informs him that Ruben, her lover’s 17-year-old son, will be moving into his room. The series follows their evolving relationship over six episodes, from their teenage years through Niall’s college years and into adulthood.

Themes

The series examines themes of male friendship, loyalty, sexuality, and violence. The narrative contains depictions of violence. The final episode reportedly contains an emotionally intense scene.
