Minneapolis to Host Celebration for 10th Anniversary of Prince's Death
The city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, is planning a multi-day celebration to mark the 10th anniversary of Prince's death on April 21, 2016. The event, called the "10th Anniversary Celebration of Life," will be centered at Paisley Park, the musician's former home and studio, which is now a museum.
The celebration will run from June 3 to June 7, 2024, concluding on what would have been Prince's 68th birthday.
"In Minneapolis, we don't just remember Prince—we feel him in the streets, in the music, in who we are," said Mayor Jacob Frey.
Planned Events
A highlight of the celebration will be a free, two-hour, all-ages community sing-along held outdoors near a downtown Prince mural. The sing-along was announced jointly by Prince's longtime attorney, L. Londell McMillan, and Mayor Frey.
Statements from Organizers
L. Londell McMillan stated the celebration aims to present "a cross section of his artistic brilliance and his human spirit across his lifespan." He expressed a hope to move public reflection from sadness to gratitude for Prince's vast body of work.
