‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Holds World Premiere in New York City

The world premiere for the highly anticipated sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, was held at New York City's Lincoln Center on April 20. The event followed a global press tour and celebrated the film's upcoming release on May 1, marking 20 years since the original film debuted.

"New York as a city is a spectacle in itself, and so this film, so it had to be the home for our premiere," said returning star Emily Blunt.

Premiere Event Highlights

The premiere took place at the prestigious David Geffen Hall in Lincoln Center. Guests enjoyed film-themed amenities, including a Grey Goose Vodka bar serving signature drinks inspired by the movie and a photo booth designed around the sequel's fictional magazine, Runway.

Star-Studded Attendees

The event was attended by the core returning cast from the original film. Other notable guests from the worlds of film, music, and fashion were also in attendance.

Returning Cast:

  • Meryl Streep
  • Anne Hathaway
  • Emily Blunt

Additional Guests Reported:
Stanley Tucci, Lady Gaga, Barbara Palvin, Dylan Sprouse, Pauline Chalamet, Winnie Harlow, and Heidi Klum.

Fashion on the Red Carpet

As expected for a film centered on the fashion industry, the premiere showcased significant designer looks.

Emily Blunt wore a gown from the Schiaparelli Spring/Summer 2026 Haute Couture collection. According to a press release, the intricate dress featured a fitted raffia bodice, an ivory tulle skirt, and incorporated 25,000 silk thread feathers and gold metal eyelets. Her stylist was Jessica Paster.

Meryl Streep chose a vermilion Givenchy cap gown with a long leather cape from the brand's Fall/Winter 2026 collection. She accessorized with black leather gloves, boots, and sunglasses.

Anne Hathaway appeared in a red strapless gown with a voluminous skirt from Louis Vuitton.

Lady Gaga wore a black outfit from the Saint Laurent Fall/Winter 2026 collection.

"I'm aware of the eyeballs on it," Anne Hathaway's stylist, Erin Walsh, told Vogue regarding the fashion choices for the sequel's events.

A Nod to the Original Film: During the earlier press tour, some cast members paid homage to a famous fashion moment from the first film by wearing items in cerulean blue. These included a custom J.Crew crewneck worn by Meryl Streep and a fringed item from Sacai worn by Anne Hathaway.

Cast Reflections on the Sequel

The cast has expressed deep connection to the franchise. In a September 2025 interview, Emily Blunt stated the franchise has "deep emotional roots" for the cast.

Meryl Streep also reflected on the contrast between the premieres, noting the tension around the original film's debut. In a Vogue cover story, she commented, "Well, everybody was afraid of Anna on the first one, so we couldn't find any clothes."

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled for wide release on May 1.
