Braves' Acuña Jr. Exits Game After Being Hit by Pitch
Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. was removed from the game prior to the bottom of the sixth inning after being hit by a pitch on the left wrist. The incident occurred during a game against the Washington Nationals.
Incident Details
The pitch was thrown by Nationals starting pitcher Jake Irvin. This was the second time in the game that Irvin hit Acuña Jr. After the second hit-by-pitch, Acuña Jr. was shown pointing to his wrist after reaching first base. The pitch appeared to catch part of a protective guard he was wearing.
Acuña Jr. was replaced in right field by Eli White.
The Atlanta Braves announced that X-rays on Acuña Jr.'s wrist were negative, and he is considered day-to-day.
Game Context and Aftermath
Earlier in the game, Acuña Jr. came in to score on a Drake Baldwin double. He was later stranded in the on-deck circle after the team batted around in the top of the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Braves starting pitcher Bryce Elder hit Nationals shortstop C.J. Abrams with a pitch. This action led the umpires to issue warnings to both teams.
