Fremantle Triumphs in Western Derby 62

Fremantle has defeated West Coast by 56 points in the 62nd Western Derby. The match was highlighted by a career-best performance from young Dockers forward Jye Amiss.

Amiss Shines with Career-High Haul

Amiss was a standout, kicking five goals—a career-high for the young forward. He complemented his scoring with 13 disposals and 10 marks during the match. His influential performance saw him finish second in the Glendinning–Allan Medal count.

Fremantle senior coach Justin Longmuir said Amiss's performance did not surprise him.

Longmuir spoke to media after the match, noting that the development of young key forwards involves facing different challenges and is not always linear. He stated that Amiss has had a solid season, remains positive, and consistently works on his game while applying feedback.

Longmuir noted that Amiss has performed under pressure in the past, including kicking important goals and providing contests. He added that Amiss's improvement in using his body during contests has been a gradual process over time.

Coach Reflects on Team Performance

While pleased with the derby result, Longmuir identified areas for the team to improve. He highlighted the team's toughness in contests, their ability to gain early field position, and their consistency.

He stated the team was tough in contests, gained early field position, won every quarter, and played the game on their terms.

Looking Ahead

Fremantle's next match is against Carlton in Round 7 on Saturday, April 25, at Optus Stadium. This game will also serve as the club's Len Hall Tribute Game.
