Germany Summons Russian Ambassador Over Threats

The German Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that it had summoned the Russian ambassador to address Russian threats.

The ministry stated this action was taken in response to Russia identifying Germany and its defense industry contractors as potential targets of aggression, including hybrid measures. Russia cited Germany's collaborative relationship with Ukraine as the reason for these threats.

"Russia's direct threats against targets in Germany are an attempt to weaken our support for Ukraine and to test our unity."

In a statement on X, the German Foreign Ministry elaborated on its position.

"Our response is clear. We will not be intimidated. Such threats and all kinds of espionage activities in Germany are completely unacceptable. To this end, the Russian ambassador was summoned today."

Background

Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The conflict has continued since that time.
