Elden Ring Feature Film Enters Production for 2028 Release

A live-action adaptation of the blockbuster video game "Elden Ring" is officially in production, with a theatrical release scheduled for March 3, 2028.

The film is a co-production between the independent film company A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment, the publisher of the original game. It will be filmed in the IMAX format.

Creative Team and Cast

Alex Garland is writing and directing the project. Reports indicate that Garland, described as a longtime fan of the game, made a personal pitch to the game's publishers to secure the adaptation rights.

Background on the Source Material

The "Elden Ring" video game was released in February 2022. It is an action role-playing game set in a dark fantasy world, developed by FromSoftware under the direction of Hidetaka Miyazaki. The game's mythological foundation was written by author George R. R. Martin.

Since its release, the game has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and has received over 400 Game of the Year awards from various publications.

It also had one of the largest debut viewing events on the streaming platform Twitch and was among the most-searched games on Google in the year of its release.
