AirTrunk Expands into India with Acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra
AirTrunk, a hyperscale data centre platform operating in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, has announced the acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra, a developer of large-scale data centres with operations in India. The transaction provides AirTrunk with access to Lumina's development pipeline, existing contracts, relationships, and operating capabilities.
Following the acquisition, AirTrunk will scale to more than 3 GW of operating and planned capacity across 20 campuses in six regions: Australia, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and India.
The Strategic Acquisition
Lumina's portfolio includes approximately 600 MW of planned capacity, representing up to US$5 billion in future development potential. The company operates data centres in three Tier 1 Indian markets: Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad, with a focus on AI-ready, energy efficient infrastructure.
AirTrunk's platform continues to be supported by long-term capital from its backers, Blackstone and CPPIB.
A High-Growth Market
The move positions AirTrunk in one of the world's most dynamic data centre markets. India's national installed data centre capacity is projected to grow from roughly 1.5 GW in 2025 to around 10 GW by 2030. This explosive growth is attributed to rapid cloud adoption, 5G expansion, data sovereignty rules, and India's vast mobile user base. The government's IndiaAI Mission initiative, aimed at building sovereign AI capability, further fuels demand.
Leadership Perspectives
"India is one of the largest and fastest growing markets for hyperscale and AI infrastructure worldwide, and expanding in this market is a significant milestone for AirTrunk's broader APAC strategy."
Robin Khuda, Founder & CEO of AirTrunk, added that by acquiring Lumina, the company is "uniquely positioned to deliver the scale, speed, and performance our customers need as they expand across the APAC region."
Sujeet Deshpande, Co-Founder & CEO of Lumina CloudInfra, stated: "By bringing our team together with AirTrunk, we combine local strength with global platforms in design, construction, operations, safety, quality, and technology – along with access to AirTrunk's global customer network and capital strength."
Peng Wei Tan, Senior Managing Director – Real Estate at Blackstone, commented: "This partnership marks a meaningful expansion of our data centre portfolio and reinforces one of Blackstone's highest conviction themes, digital infrastructure." He noted Blackstone's role as the world's largest investor in data centres, delivering scale to meet rising regional demand.
