US President Donald Trump has revealed renovations to the bathroom within the Lincoln Bedroom, featuring new marble and gold fixtures. Trump stated that these updates are historically appropriate for the era of Abraham Lincoln, replacing a 1940s art deco design. The White House confirmed the renovation was privately funded.
Renovation Details
President Trump shared images of the updated bathroom on social media. The remodeling includes the installation of black and white marble and gold fixtures for the sink, bathtub faucet, and shower door, along with a chandelier. Trump commented that the previous design, characterized by green art deco tiles from the 1940s, was "totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era." He further claimed the new black and white marble is "very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln" and suggested it "could be the marble that was originally there!"
Historical Context and Funding
The bathroom is situated within what was originally Abraham Lincoln's office and cabinet room. This area was previously renovated by former President Harry Truman as part of a broader White House renovation in the late 1940s. The White House Historical Association notes that the wallpaper in Lincoln's office and bedroom was once colored green and gold. The White House stated that the current renovation was financed through private funds, incurring no cost to taxpayers.
Other White House Modifications
This bathroom renovation is among several changes initiated by President Trump at the White House this year. Earlier in October, the East Wing was demolished to facilitate the construction of a new ballroom.
