Goalkeeper Dies After Collapsing During Sydney Soccer Match
A 32-year-old goalkeeper has died after collapsing during a soccer match in Sydney's northwest on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2:30 PM at the View Street grounds, the home of the West Pennant Hills Redbacks soccer club. Witnesses at the scene immediately began resuscitation efforts, which continued for over half an hour before emergency services arrived.
NSW Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Anthony Boyd was among those who administered CPR to the player.
Emergency Response
A significant emergency response was dispatched to the grounds, including five police vehicles and two ambulance units. Paramedics took over resuscitation efforts for approximately 10 minutes at the scene before transporting the player to Westmead Hospital.
Upon arrival at the hospital, the goalkeeper was in a critical condition and subsequently died.
Official Proceedings
As is standard procedure following an unexpected death, authorities will prepare a report for the coroner. The circumstances surrounding the collapse are not yet known.
