Ceasefire Holds in Southern Lebanon as New Phase Begins

The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon is now in its second day, marking a fragile period of calm along the border.

Situation on the Ground

The Lebanese army has established a barrier to prevent residents from returning to their homes in the border town of Khiam. Despite the truce, loud explosions continued to be heard in towns that are partly under Israeli occupation, underscoring the tense and volatile situation.

On Friday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that the country was entering a new phase which could transform the temporary ceasefire into a permanent peace settlement.
